Dr. Layne Longfellow
(www.laynelongfellow.com) began to read Henry Longfellow's verse after retiring from a prominent career presenting lecture-presentations
to audiences in North America and abroad. Moved, he devoted himself to developing a way of reading Longfellow's verse that went beyond the
singsong phrasing common in classrooms and that would let them speak to contemporary Americans. The result is a unique new CD: Longfellow
Reads Longfellow: Dreams that Cannot Die
Billy Collins, Poet Laureate of the United States, writes of Longfellow Reads Longfellow:
"It is high time that the sense and sound of this major American voice were brought freshly to our ears." Dr. Ann Hutchinson Guest (granddaughter
of "Edith with golden hair") says: "I believe that my great grandfather and my grandmother would have loved this work. I am enchanted by it."
Layne Longfellow is a Board Member of Friends of the Longfellow House and a descendant of Henry's cousin Michael. He is donating a portion
of the sales of Longfellow Reads Longfellow to the Friends. The CD is available in two editions: Standard and Illustrated.
